God's Time

Sometimes it feels that we have been praying about a matter for such a very long time. God's timing is His own. Even though it seems like He is not listening, all our prayers are recorded and He will be glorified in the end. Hold on!

God's watch must tick to a different time,
It's evident to me.
Instead of numbers, 1-12,
There may be only 3.
He lives in the past, as well as now,
The future is His too.
His answers come just as proposed,
Exactly when they're due.

A Private Place

Working in an urban school can have its challenges. I try to stay in a place where I can fellowship with the Lord. I'm not always successful. This poem is my prayer.

A Private Place

Keep me in that place of praise,
High above all murmurings,
Where music plays and angels sing,
Their songs unto their King.
Fill my mind with thankfulness,
Offering sacrifices all the day.
Incense burning, lamps stay lit,
In my private place of praise.

Waiting

It is important to remember at all times that God is good and God is love. Sometimes we go through times of trial and our faith may falter. God's timetable is not as we would like it to be. He allows us to wait and in the waiting we get to know Him that much better.

Waiting but not in ignorance,
Wishing for earlier bliss.
Not my will, but Thine be done,
Was answered by the enemy's kiss.
But my enemy is not my Father,
Though difficulties confuse the cause.
For God is good and God is love,
Omnipotence allowed this pause.
Though darkness is descending,
I'll trust my Savior's plan.
His wisdom shown in heartache,
One day, I'll understand.

Prayer Poem

This poem was written as a prayer for a young son, but at times I feel that our children are always "young" to us, even when they are grown. Scripture references are from 1Chronicles 28:9 and Isaiah 26:3.

May God answer according to His perfect will.

This prayer is for my child,
Still tender in Your sight.
Wholehearted service and a willing mind,
Are my heart's prayers tonight.
Keep His mind stayed on Thee,
Perfect peace, the sure reward.
May his thoughts incline to holiness,
This son that I adore.

The Slumber Party

Sometimes I think I'm part bear. I would love to hibernate all winter and come out in the spring. It just seems like the right thing to do.

Every year about the 20th of December,
I receive an invitation by air.
When the weather turns chilly,
And the sun sets early,
The letter is sure to be there.
The contents are simple,
And easy to read.
They say, "Come, take a rest for awhile,
Snuggle in bed, so cozy and warm,
Though the winds may blow frigid and wild."
The party continues "till March 21st,
When the forsythias come out to play.
The snow begins melting and days become longer,
And I find new strength for the day.

Intercession

I find great comfort in the reality that Jesus is praying for me. Since He knew me before the foundation of the world and knows how everything will end, I must believe that goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life.

What are your prayers for me today?
I know you intercede.
As you prayed for your friend, Peter,
In his dire time of need.
Since you know all my tomorrows,
And the future's clear to you,
I'm sure your prayers for me today,
Are sure to see me through.

A Winter Concert

This poem was written while watching the beginning of a snowstorm. It started out so innocently.

A Winter Concert

Snow is falling quietly,
A few flakes here and there.
A violin and piccolo,
Can be heard in the wintry air.
Soon the snow picks up the tempo,
As horns begin to sound.
Drums and cymbals, clarinets,
Contribute and resound.
So through the night the concert plays,
Though the world has gone to sleep.
The grand finale ends in silence,
With snowflakes, two feet deep.
